I see some of the questions and answers in r/unreal, and it seems a lot of self taught people have huuuuuuuuuge gaps in theor knowledge that professional education would overcome. I feel like it has done a really good job of setting my up for success. I am a Full Sail Student in my third year of my online Bachelors of Game Design degree. Now, Harvard may be pricey, but they're not shoving Harvard admission forms into the faces of brain damaged war veterans in order to skim off the juicy government bucks. I think the highlight here is that the government tried to crack down on private-college predatory loans, but there was a loophole that exempted veteran loans, so the colleges sent recruiters to trauma wards and starting signing up brain-damaged Marine veterans to courses. Cracking down on these private degree-mills (at least the predatory advertisements) could cut up to a third off the total cost of the student loan system. They make up the cost of the advertisements by skimping on irrelevant stuff like teachers and course material. They use predatory techniques such as blasting out advertising to pull students in, then sucker them in to taking out federal loans. ![]() The for-profits account for 31% of national student loans despite only making up 13% of all students. See the entire John Oliver episode about for-profit schools and how they're a major driver of student debt. The difference is that the for-profit colleges have shareholders and owners. Nope, they're incorporated as non-profit corporations. ![]()
